Choose the right version
One day: concentrate on Swaffham, Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham. This gives the clearest contrast between the fictional town centre and coast without turning the day into a race.
Two days: add Hunstanton and Happisburgh, placing the more distant lighthouse on a separate coastal day.
Stop 1 · Swaffham and Market Shipborough
Begin around Market Place and the Buttercross, then follow the dedicated walking guide. Allow time for the real town and museum rather than viewing every building only through its television role. Oakleigh House and working premises should be viewed respectfully from public routes.
Stop 2 · Wells-next-the-Sea harbour
Continue north to the quay that helped give Market Shipborough its maritime identity. The harbour is a working environment. The beach is farther along Beach Road, so do not treat the quay and beach as one quick stop.
Stop 3 · Holkham Bay
Holkham supplies the spacious coastal atmosphere associated with the programme. Access is through a protected nature reserve; allow for the walk through the pinewoods and the much longer distance to the shoreline at some states of the tide.
Optional western extension · Hunstanton
Visit West Norfolk confirms that Hunstanton featured in the series, although exact scenes remain unassigned. Treat this as a broader production-landscape stop and enjoy the resort’s own promenade and coast.
Separate eastern extension · Happisburgh
Happisburgh Lighthouse is a published identification for the opening episode of series two. It lies well east of the core Swaffham–Wells–Holkham route, so it works better on a second day. Check tower opening information and current coastal-erosion guidance.
Travel responsibly
Do not block entrances or stop on unsafe verges for photographs. Use signed public parking, observe tide warnings and nature-reserve restrictions, and never assume a private production location is open to visitors. The interactive location map links to current street mapping for orientation.
