Swaffham is inland; Wells and Holkham are coastal. The fictional town cannot be visited as one walkable place.

Start with the geography

The series brings Norfolk’s market-town and coast settings together as the fictional Market Shipborough. In real life, Swaffham is inland, while Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham are separate coastal destinations. Choose a plan that gives each place enough time instead of treating the screen geography as a single town-centre stroll.

What the planner can do

Select a half-day, a day or a weekend to see a suggested outline. Turn on the accessibility layer for a reminder to check surfaces, gradients, parking, toilets, seating and any seasonal transport with the destination itself. The choices help organise a starting point; they do not calculate live traffic, public-transport connections, tide conditions or step-free access.

Use the outline as a starting point

A half-day keeps the visit in Swaffham. A full day pairs the town with Wells and adds Holkham only if the day’s conditions make it practical. A weekend spreads the visit across the inland and coastal locations, leaving more room for local heritage and changing conditions. Adjust the plan to your group, mobility, interests and the season.

Before setting out, check current access and parking with the official providers linked from the location pages. Our accessibility guide describes the different surfaces and distances involved. The routes are suggestions for visiting real places respectfully; the site does not operate tours or promise that a building used on screen is open to the public.

  1. Morning in Swaffham.
  2. Travel north and explore Wells quay.
  3. Add Holkham only if daylight, access and weather allow.

This planner deliberately avoids fixed journey times because traffic, timetables and access change.
