Is Market Shipborough a real place?

No. Market Shipborough is a fictional Norfolk town created from several real locations—principally Swaffham for its market centre and the north Norfolk coast for its waterfront and beach.

The short answer

You cannot find Market Shipborough on a map. You can, however, visit many of the places that form its screen geography.

Swaffham is inland, so the production used coastal locations to give the fictional town its relationship with the sea. Holkham Estate’s own filming record confirms work connected with all three series, while Visit Norfolk identifies Swaffham as Market Shipborough’s town centre.

Key landmarks

Oakleigh House overlooks Swaffham Market Place and served as Kingdom & Kingdom. The Greyhound became the Startled Duck, while the Butter Cross is one of the square’s most recognisable anchors. Historic England dates Oakleigh House to the late sixteenth or early seventeenth century, with an eighteenth-century remodelling; the Grade I Butter Cross dates to 1781–83.
