Accessibility and practical access

A filming-location visit should explain surfaces, distances and facilities clearly enough for visitors to make their own informed decision.

Swaffham centre

Town-centre streets and Market Place are the compact part of the itinerary. Verify the chosen car park, dropped kerbs, market-day changes and toilet opening before travel.

Wells quay and beach

The quay and beach are separate. Holkham Estate states that Beach Road car park has toilets nearby; beach access includes a tarmac slope, while sand remains a variable surface. An accessible electric beach bus operates seasonally, but the vintage bus is not wheelchair accessible.

Holkham Beach

Accessible parking is provided. A boardwalk leads towards a viewing platform, but shifting sand and the transition from the boardwalk can affect independent access onto the beach itself.

Coastal planning

Wind, tide, heat, cold and long exposed distances can change the practical difficulty. Build in a shorter alternative and check current conditions on the day.

Check before leaving

  • Step-free route and surface type
  • Distance from parking or public transport
  • Accessible toilets and their opening hours
  • Seating and shelter
  • Wheelchair or mobility-scooter suitability
  • Quieter times and assistance-dog arrangements
